Old is Good

My dad and I were just texting and one of his texts back to me was “Old is good!” So, today my parents are celebrating their 33rd wedding anniversary. They got married in a little town that includes their alma mater. They are celebrating in a place that they love. It’s become more of a tradition for them in the past few years, The Cour d’Alene Resort.
For close to a decade we have driven through this little idelic town on our way to an even bigger town for either shopping, education or just a good haircut. It’s a little town that we love and comes second in beauty to our beloved Flathead Valley. If anyone deserves time away it’s Dad and Mom, Pops and Barb, Danny and Barbie. However you might know them, we can all agree, they make 33 years of marriage not only look like a piece of cake but also a total blast! They have done a great job of raising Rach, Matty and I while maintaining the fun and secrecy between two people in a marriage partnership all the while. Chasen and I feel so blessed to have them in our lives, we can’t wait til we get to go away to celebrate our 33rd and many more!

A few weekends ago, we had a girls day in Bozeman. We ate and shopped. Pretty much that was the gist. It was SUCH a gorgeous day for not only a drive but also to walk the streets of downtown Bozeman. This is Amanda in the picture with Alyssa. She and Alyssa have been best girlfriends since they were young girls growing up in Wabasso, population 600?? It was the first time she had been to visit since Trevor and Alyssa’s wedding and the first time meeting Olivia. I found the handbag of my dreams (although I didn’t BUY it!) and Alyssa and Amanda enjoyed just hanging out and shopping….

So. The other night we had the absolute pleasure of taking care of (playing with, spoiling, tickling, etc.) our favoritist little one, our god-daughter, Olivia. We wish her parents would let her spend more time with us! But whatevs…

We absolutely adore her, but on this night she took a shine to her Uncle Chase or “Daesssssss” as Livie calls him. He had to leave for about 20 minute and she stood at the door forlornly saying “daessss, daessss” and patting the seat he occupied before he left. Bless her heart, he just had to go feed more buppies. Buppies that ALSO would have loved to lick her sweet face.

Here she is sitting on Raleigh’s bed. She thinks this is great fun, sitting on this big, round soft piece of fabric on the floor. As if we haul it out just for this Princess. I think we were watching the Backgardigans and Iron Chef on commercials. And playinging “Beeeeeep! Beeeeep!” in the boring parts of both.

As aforementioned, she only had eyes and emotions for her Uncle Chase. She drank her milk, had her blankie and turned over to sleep on his chest, except for those that know this dear little muchkin know that she fights sleep at all costs. What might she be missing out on???

On a side note….The Krieger’s had a lovely house guest this past week. Auntie Amanda was here to visit. And she painted Olivia’s Piggies a very dark shade of red. If we had our druthers it would have been a lovely, light shade of pink, but her little toes were darling nonetheless…..

Domestication at it’s best

So this past weekend we made our first batch of ice cream of the warm season and installed blinds and new lighting. Yep, bored, boring, and a bore. But still sorta fun.

Chase’s request for strawberry ice cream went uncontested. It was a unanimous vote. But since we ate all the eggs for breakfast, we had to come up with an alternative idea on how to make rich, creamy ice cream. Thank goodness we are masters of improv.

The Strawbellies are Macerating…sounds naughty!

New Yawk

Here are the things I love best about New York City:
1. That you can travel miles underground.

2. That people walk REALLY fast, all the time.

3. That Manhattan makes you feel like you’ve changed cities altogether when you change neighborhoods.

4. That little family run dry cleaners, in business for generations still keep their storefront, even though Lacoste and Gucci are on each side of it today.

5. The food. The food. The food. Like picking up a slice and eating it on the go. Right dad?

6. That cabbies make you put your seat belts on even though they come *this close* to plowing down pedestrians crossing on a red hand. The poor crossing person might get run over but at least YOU have YOUR seatbelt on.

7. The diversity and the fact that on any given street corner or subway car, their will be moms with Mclarens, business men, dusty construction workers and students with calculus books and earbuds and THEY WILL ALL BE IGNORING EACH OTHER even though from shoulder to ankle they are lined up and touching.

Here’s another silly show I watch: Gossip Girl. It could be fascination with all things Upper East Side and the socialites life there, but I think it’s just a plan old addiction to sappy high school dramas, dating back to Dylan McKay. Rachel shares my tiny enjoyment of this show because thankfully she was the person I was with when we ran into a live scene shoot on the steps of the MET last week. Did we scurry our little selves inside to see the Seurat’s and Van Gogh’s? No way, we watched them work for a minute or 30 AND then went inside the actual museum. Priorities?

We were disappointed that they weren’t shooting any of the male characters at the time because the person who we REALLY wanted to see was Dan Humphreys (that’s not his real name, but that’s what I call him in real life because thats his character’s name). Pictured here:

We didn’t take a real live picture of him because after leaving the MET and walking through 5th Avenue up 82nd to meet up with Mom and Dad, we ran, literally, smack dab into him leaving a makeup trailer. So flustered were we that all I could do was look down at him squarely in the eye and squeal “Hi Dan!” like a 14 year old while Rachel promptly grabbed my elbow and shepherded me away from the tiny, as in I- could-probably- squash- him- like- a -bug- tiny, pancake made up little man. He seems much taller on the show.
